I have some exciting things to speak about this blog post and a good amount of questions being answered.
One of the many questions we have been getting is what will happen to CPRewritten in 2020 when Flash Player leaves the building permanently. We’ve been working around the clock and looking at many options for us to keep the beloved childhood game alive for many fans, and we’re more than ready to finally show something to you guys.
This is where we’re announcing our testing phase for our brand new HTML5 client for Club Penguin Rewritten. The best part about all of this is, you guys are testing along with us to make sure this is perfectly running smooth for a release to the bigger audiences.
I’ve written down the answers to your questions that you might have and how you can join us with testing down below, please read them carefully:
What is HTML5 and why is it different to Flash?
HTML5 is basically a different technology which you guys will be using to move around and view the game properly as intended, you’ll be seeing your penguin walk super smoothly across multiple rooms compared to Flash Player. It’s very much optimised and you’ll definitely see the difference.
Will my progress reset from this change?
Absolutely not. No progress will change, you will be keeping the exact same penguin and the exact same items on your account(s). We will not be touching any of that, you will see a difference with how the game acts but that will only be positive. You’ll see it running smoothly like never before, even on mobile devices!
What does this mean for CP Rewritten in general?
This is basically, how do I explain this in words… The future.
Apologies for the cursed video, but yes, the future is HTML5 to keep the game actually running as intended and this basically allows it to. Flash will be discontinued at the end of December 2020, HTML5 will keep running for a very long time and is just a much nicer upgrade for us, it will allow us to do some really cool things for things such as parties. We can’t say exactly what those things are at the moment, but we do plan to use some of them.
That’s cool, count me in! How can I test for you guys?
You can test by simply joining this link and logging into your penguin you use to always log in and play! Please note that the gameplay is very limited and only has a few rooms where you can chat, change your penguin, and walk around in. This will be changed later on and this is very early on, but we’re comfortable enough to see a test to see how well it performs with many on.
Until then… Waddle on!
